The main difference between hand-woven and machine-made carpets

One of the most important points that we should pay attention to regarding the difference between hand-woven and machine-made carpets is who is the carpet weaver? Machine-made carpets are woven by industrial machines, and hand-woven carpets are woven by humans, and this is the biggest distinguishing point of this issue. This distinction is due to the fact that in machines we will see regular weaving and a smooth surface, which is not the case with hand-woven carpets. One of the distinguishing points of this problem is paying attention to the back of the carpet, which in the machine carpet, all the knots are similar and regular and sized. But the hand-woven carpet is uneven and has knots of irregular size, and some knots are big and some are smaller.

The difference between handmade carpets and machinery on the roots

If you look at the roots of a hand-woven carpet, you will see that the roots of a hand-woven carpet are part of the carpet and are the so-called carpet warp. The threads of the hand-woven carpet are woven and finally removed from the weave and hang in the form of a root which is clearly visible. But the root of the machine-made carpet is only sewn to the machine-made carpet and is not made of the threads of the carpet itself.

The difference between handmade carpets and machine on edges

Well, look at the side and edges, or specifically the "carpet pattern" that is made up of wefts, this is one of the differences between hand-woven and machine-made carpets. This section in the machine carpet is smooth and one-handed and is embroidered by machines and can be seen regularly along the carpet. But in the hand-woven carpet, the edge of the carpet looks uneven along the carpet because it is stitched by hand.

The difference between handmade carpets in pattern and mirror

One of the important differences between hand-woven and machine-made carpets is that in machine-made carpets everything is done in a precise, orderly and uniform manner, while in hand-woven carpets this order may not be done. This irregularity is due to the fact that the weaver may even have woven the carpet using his memory and not from the map.

Carpet yarn

Another difference between hand-woven and machine-made carpets is the type of yarn used in hand-woven carpets. Handwoven carpets are made of wool, cotton or silk and generally using natural fibers. And the type of yarn used in machine carpets is usually synthetic fibers such as acrylic, polyester, artificial silk, polypropylene and nylon.

Quality and longevity

One of the differences between hand-woven and machine-made carpets is the difference in their quality and lifespan. Handwoven carpets have a longer lifespan due to the strong and real knots. While in the machine carpet, not all the knots are real. And this makes the handwoven carpet of higher quality to the point where this product remains for several generations and has a longer lifespan. This issue does not exist in the case of machine-made carpets, and in the best condition of maintenance, a machine-made carpet will last twenty years.

Difference in cost

The difference between hand-woven and machine-made carpets in cost is another important point, which can be used to determine the type of product, and because of the handmade industry, hand-woven carpets are more expensive. Of course, the handmade carpet takes more time and sometimes it takes a year to be ready, and this is the second reason why this luxury product is expensive.
