Axial compressors are compressors in which the gas flows parallel to the axis of the rotor. The compressor consists of several cascade rows, some of these rows are called rotors, which are connected to the central shaft and rotate at high speed. The rest of the rows are the stator, which is fixed in place and does not rotate. The task of the stator is to increase the pressure and return the current from the spiral state to the parallel axis. The gas passed through the compressor and its speed alternately increased and decreased. With every increase in speed, the kinetic energy of the gas increases, and with every decrease, its kinetic energy becomes an increase in pressure. These compressors have continuous flow and create dense gas in large volume and have high efficiency. An axial compressor (Axial compressors) has an axial flow, air or gas passes through rows of fixed and moving vanes along the rotating axis of the compressor. In this way, the air speed gradually increases as the fixed vanes convert the kinetic energy into pressure. The lowest volumetric flow rate in such a compressor is about 15/s. Usually, a balancing cylinder is installed in the compressor, to balance the axial pressure force. Axial compressors are generally smaller than centrifugal compressors, and their speed is usually 25% higher, and these compressors are used for high volume flow rate at relatively moderate pressure. With the exception of gas turbine applications, the pressure ratio is rarely higher than 6. The typical current is approximately 65/s and the effective pressure is approximately 14 bar.

Advantages of axial flow compressors

Axial flow compressors have recently found a lot of industrial use and are the most suitable compressors for very high volumes, even up to 860,000 cubic feet per minute. This category of compressors, compared to centrifugal compressors, for compressing a certain volume of gas, the rotating diameter (Rotor) will be half the diameter of the impeller of the centrifugal compressor. If the axial flow compressor is well designed and built, the gas velocity can reach 400 ft/s at the outlet. The initial cost of building an axial flow compressor is equal to the initial cost of building a centrifugal compressor to perform a certain task, but the cost of the driving force of the axial flow compressor is lower than the cost of the driving force of the centrifugal compressor. It means that for a given job, the axial flow compressor of the turbine or electric motor needs a smaller one, which in turn reduces the subsequent costs.
