Refrigerator and freezer are among the appliances that never stop working. The vinyl tape that forms the seal between the inside of the refrigerator and the doors effectively keeps the appliance running and extends its life. Any tearing or loosening means you need to replace your refrigerator door seal. You can use a vinyl softener or a thin layer of petroleum jelly to maintain the flexibility and life of your tape for better sealing. (Before you use them, wipe off the dirt on the tape.)
