What is a pumice block?

One of the widely used materials in the construction industry is cement block. There are different types of cement blocks according to their efficiency and structure. One of the types of blocks that is widely used in Iran is pumice block.

Light pumice block is made of concrete, cement and pumice mineral pumice and is used in the construction of walls, slabs of apartments, towers and other various structures, which compared to similar materials such as brick and clay. There are many advantages. Light block, which is also known as pumice block, consists only of pumice and cement, and any other material reduces the quality of the product, which, of course, is very expensive at the price of light cement block. It is effective because of this reason that sometimes some sellers declare the price of cement blocks lower. Of course, there are other cement blocks in the market that are made of sand and cement, which are known as concrete blocks or garden blocks or heavy blocks.

In general, light pumice blocks are divided into two categories: mineral pumice block and industrial pumice block, each of which uses different materials in the construction, but in the end, they have the same characteristics and advantages. br>
Mineral pumice block

It is a block produced from mineral pumice. Mineral pumice is extracted from the mine and is the ash of volcanic materials. Mineral blocks are available in two types: Qorve mineral pumice and Bostan Abad mineral pumice.

Mineral pumice is found abundantly in the northern half of the country, which makes its price reasonable. It is also prepared and produced from the mines and mountains of Bostan Abad, Tabriz. These mines are located 30 km from Tabriz city and in Bostan Abad city. Mineral pumice has a very low weight due to its low density. Most of the blocks available in Tehran and Karaj factories are made of this cement block. Industrial pumice block This type of block is produced from industrial pumice. And in the construction of industrial blocks, a mixture of cement, water and industrial pumice is used, and the main material in the construction of these types of blocks is clay, which is made in factories and in large furnaces at high temperatures.
The only difference between mineral pumice block and industrial pumice block is their weight. In this way, industrial pumice blocks have more weight. But both have the same characteristics.

Light pumice blocks are made according to the latest standards of the day and have a high resistance against pressure. Due to the low modulus of elasticity in these blocks, they are made as part of the filling components in buildings that are exposed to earthquakes, which reduces the force of the earthquake and lowers the amount of destruction.

One of the most important features of these blocks is their low weight, which makes them easy to transport and reduce the duration of the project in construction. On the other hand, the weight of the building will be significantly reduced.

Buildings located in earthquake-prone areas of the country use this type of block in most constructions. Because the earthquake force on the structure has a direct relationship with the weight of the building.
