The history of the restaurant from Chinese civilization to the French Revolution

Traces of the first places that made money by selling food can be found in all the early civilizations of the previous centuries. For example, in the distant years when the villagers made a living by selling agricultural products to the residents of big cities, places were built in the intercity routes for the accommodation and feeding of the farmers. These places were actually the early examples of today's inns and provided food, sleeping and rest to the farmers who were carrying their products to the city for sale.

But one of the oldest human actions in order to earn planned income through the sale of food can be found in the ancient civilization of China. Researchers believe that the signs of selling meals in an organized way and even close to our present day can be seen from the beginning of the 11th century in the big cities of the former Chinese empires.

In fact, in addition to the ancient food culture, the Chinese have a very long history in the field of preparing and distributing food in an organized way and earning money in this way. But this is not the end of the story and the roots of today's restaurants are more connected to medieval France than China! After the French Revolution in the 18th century, many employees of the French imperial court were forced to leave their former jobs and return to life outside the palace.

Many of these employees, who were looking for a new job to make a living, had the experience of working in the kitchen of the former empire and decided to build a new business with this skill. In fact, the departure of former court chefs from the palace led to the opening of the first examples of restaurants and brought good income to the former employees of the king!

Therefore, French people gradually got acquainted with a new concept called "restaurant" and took full advantage of the skills of chefs who had a history of working in the royal palace. (Apparently, the French have served quality food since the very beginning of the concept of restaurant!) After this period, the concept of restaurant, which had strengthened its foundations in France, was placed in the context of industrial revolutions and with the development of railways, shipping and the increase of information exchange between the countries and continents of the world was also introduced to other parts of the world and met with an unprecedented welcome.
