The main application of sulfuric acid is in the preparation of chemical phosphate fertilizer. The production of chemical fertilizers accounts for 60% of the sulfuric acid consumption market. Mining and metal industries also account for about 4% of the global sulfuric acid consumption market.
Chemical fertilizers
The growth rate of sulfuric acid consumption in the manufacture of chemical fertilizers in America was about 2.2% between 1985 and 1997, and this amount reached about 3.9% during the years 1997 to 2004. Sulfuric acid is used directly in the production of phosphoric acid, ammonium sulfate fertilizer and normal (simple) superphosphate fertilizer. Phosphoric acid itself is the raw material for the production of various phosphate fertilizers.

Mining and metallic
Applications of sulfuric acid in mining industries include copper extraction, uranium, vanadium extraction, and metal washing and preparation for paint and coating.
