Single layer electronic board

A single-layer or single-sided board is a printed circuit board made of a single layer of base material or substrate. One side of the base material is covered with a thin layer of metal. Copper is the most common coating due to its good performance as an electrical conductor. When the copper base coating is applied, a mask or tin shield is usually applied, followed by a silk screen to identify all the electronic components on the board.

Double layer electronic board
Double-layer or double-sided electronic boards have a base material or substrate with a thin layer of conductive metal such as copper embedded on both sides of the board. Holes drilled through the board to circuits on one side of the board allow components to connect to circuits on the other side.

Multilayer electronic board

Multilayer PCBs are composed of a set of three or more double-layer PCBs. These boards are held together with a special adhesive and sandwiched between insulating pieces to ensure that excess heat does not melt any of the pieces. Multilayer PCBs are produced in different sizes, for example, they can be four-layer, ten-layer, twelve-layer, etc. The largest multilayer PCB ever made is 50 layers thick.

Hard electronic board

"Rigid" PCBs are made of a solid substrate material that prevents the board from bending. Probably the most common example of a hard PCB you've seen is a computer motherboard. A motherboard is a multi-layer PCB that is designed to power the computer and simultaneously allows communication between all the different parts of the computer such as the CPU, GPU, and RAM.

Flexible electronic board

Unlike rigid PCBs, which use non-moving materials such as fiberglass, flexible printed circuit boards are made of materials such as plastic that can bend and move. Like rigid PCBs, flexible PCBs come in single-, double-, or multi-layer designs. Because this type of electronic board must be printed on flexible material, flexible PCB is more expensive to manufacture.

Hard flexible electronic board

Flexible boards consist of several layers of flexible PCBs that are connected to a number of rigid PCB layers.
In certain applications, the use of rigid flexible PCBs has many advantages over the use of rigid PCBs or flexible PCBs. For example, rigid flexible boards have fewer parts than traditional hard boards or flexible boards because the wiring for both can be combined on a single board. Combining rigid and flexible boards into a rigid flexible board also allows for simpler design and reduces overall board size and equipment weight.
