Types of pinch valves

Depending on the structure of the body, there are two types of pinch valves:

Open pinch valves

Usually, mechanical pinch valves are of open type without metal body cover. The open structure of pinch valves is used to check the physical and appearance of the valve body during operation. This is the simplest type of pinch valve design, but exposes the valve body to the environment.

Closed pinch valve (Closed pinch valves)

Closed pinch valve looks like a globe valve from the outside (read more: what is a ball valve and the use of globe valves). The housing is actually a protective cover for the internal structure of the valve. The main mechanism of the pinch valve takes place inside the metal housing. This mechanism can be one of the following types:

  • Pinch valve with manual mechanism
  • Pinch valve with air pressure mechanism
  • Pinch valve with hydraulic pressure mechanism

Sleeve pinch valve

Pinch valve sleeve can have different types. These items include:

✔️ Standard Sleeve
✔️ Double Wall Sleeve for abrasive applications
✔️ Cone Sleeve for working with gaseous fluids
> ✔️Variable Orifice Sleeve

The figure below shows the types of pinch valve sleeves.

Effective factors in choosing a pinch valve

There are various parameters to consider when selecting a pinch valve for a particular application. Some of these parameters are:

Pinch valve body material: Light weight materials are preferred for choosing valve body material. The elastomeric sleeve must be carefully selected because it is in direct contact with the flowing fluid. Common materials used for pinch valve bodies include EPDM, NBR, natural rubber, silicone, food grade rubber, GRS, neoprene, butyl, Buna-N, PTFE, FDA, Hypalon, etc. These materials have good abrasion resistance to prevent damage to the valve body.
Opening and closing pressure: For the correct operation of the pinch valve, the difference in opening and closing pressure should be considered:< br> Opening: The operating pressure must be greater than the control pressure. The normal control pressure is zero bar while the opening pressure is zero bar. Sufficient pressure differential is required so that the operating pressure can open the sleeve.
Closing: When the pinch valve is closing, the control pressure must be greater than the working pressure. In the absence of a sufficient pressure difference, the control pressure may not be able to overcome the working pressure and close the valve by pressing the sleeve. withstand the maximum temperature expected for use.
