What is turning?
Turning is the process of filing, shaping and grooving the internal and external surfaces of metallic and non-metallic objects using special tools, and to someone who performs the turning process using special machines and tools. It is called a turner. Lathe operation is done by lathe tool. The lathe tool is applied on the desired part to remove its excess material and apply the desired shape and dimensions on the part. This method is done by using a lathe, which will put the lathe tool in contact with the part by moving two axes (rotary and linear). Lathe machine is considered one of the oldest methods of shaping parts, and due to its high capabilities, it is used today as one of the most widely used production methods.

Turning applications
Turning is one of the most common and important jobs in today's industries, which is used a lot. Among the applications of turning, we can mention the production of industrial parts, preparation and production of tools, as well as the production of all kinds of metal sculptures.
Types of turning
Turning generally includes three categories, which are called manual turning, milling and CNC.
Manual turning
The turning operation can be done manually or automatically. The traditional mode of manual turning is done with a conventional lathe that often requires constant operator supervision.
milling cutter
The milling process is used to remove chips and polish different surfaces. For this purpose, a device called a milling machine is used. Milling machines are classified into two categories, horizontal milling machines and vertical milling machines, according to the type of placement of the milling blade, which is horizontal or vertical.
CNC turning
CNC lathe machine is one of the most widely used machines in various sectors of the industry, which exhibits different features and capabilities.
CNC turning is a manufacturing process in which bars of material are held in a cavity and a moving axis is continuously rotated while a tool is fed into the part to remove the material to create the desired shape. A turret-like structure with attached tools is programmed to move with the raw material strip and remove material. In this way, the planned result will be created. It is worth mentioning that this type of turning operation is also called "subtractive machining"; Because it involves removing material. If the center has both adjustment and milling capabilities, as in the case above, the rotation can be stopped to allow milling of other shapes.
Computer Numerical Control (CNC) turning is a subtractive machining process in which a cutting tool is placed against a rotating part to separate materials from each other. This is usually done with a CNC lathe or turning center that cuts materials such as wood, metal, and plastic.
Turning parts
Turning parts include many things, some of which we will mention below:
Drill
Drill types are used to make holes on different surfaces. These lathe tools can create holes with different sizes and dimensions in terms of depth, length and diameter. Drills can also be mounted on multiple machines including drills/mills/lathes etc. It goes without saying that there are different types of drills, each model of which has different applications.
Razor
Razor is a tool that is used to cut metals, and its head should be sharpened if it becomes dull.
clip
A clamp is a hand tool that is used to hold work pieces in place. Clamps come in different types and sizes and can be used for a wide variety of crafts.
Clamps usually consist of two jaws that are connected to each other by a bolt and nut mechanism. The jaws can be designed and made from different materials such as wood, metal or plastic.
Turning tools
Lathe machine: Lathe machine is one of the most important tools of this job field. The lathe tools we mentioned above are smaller parts that are installed on these machines and will actually add new options to them. Lathe machines are produced in different shapes and sizes, but their applications are very related to each other. These devices cut and turn metals and wood to transform them into different shapes such as cones, cylinders, etc. Milling: Milling is one of the most widely used electrical tools used in various industries. is used From the external point of view, the milling machine is very similar to a desktop drill. In fact, it should be said that the purpose of using a burr is to work on not very hard surfaces with high quality. This device has three movement axes that allow the user to shape or polish different surfaces. It should be mentioned that this device can be used both in a fixed and mobile form; This means that you can bring the device close to the part and work with it, and it will be possible to move the part closer. It has objects in drilling. The drill will be used for drilling various surfaces such as concrete, iron, wood, aluminum, copper, building materials, etc.

Metal turning process
In this method of forming metals, the metal, which is mainly in the form of a cylinder (of course, other forms of metal can also be used), is rotated with a certain power and speed, and with the movement of the turning blades on it, the shaving operation with The specified depth and speed will be carried out.
It is necessary to know that the movement axis of the part can be a straight line or along a set of curves and angles. The term turning is usually used to describe the production of external surfaces by turning, while the term boring will be used to produce internal surfaces; For this reason, the term "turning and boring" is used for a larger family of processes called turning.
Review of safety tips in turning
Using safety equipment
Try to use equipment such as safety glasses, protective gloves, breathing mask, and other protective equipment. These equipments protect you against physical and chemical hazards.
Fixed cutting boards
Before starting work, lathers should carefully check the boards and make sure that the lathe boards, parts and tools are properly in place and able to withstand the pressure and vibrations caused by the lathe operation.
Pressure and speed control
Another important safety point in turning is setting the appropriate speed and pressure in turning machines, which is very important in this field. Maintaining proper speed and pressure during turning helps to maintain the strength of the tools and prevent unpleasant accidents.
Continuous monitoring
Maintain constant supervision of the operation during the turning operation. Pay close attention to machinery changes, sounds, heat, and other danger signs and, if necessary, fix their problems.
Having a distance from the device
Do not rely on your device in any way. Stand straight and keep your face and eyes away from particles.
Failure to make adjustments during operation
Do not adjust the device while it is working. Wait until the device stops completely. Do not make heavy cuts on long and narrow pieces. Because by doing this, the piece may bend and move out of its proper place.
Wear appropriate clothing
Avoid wearing loose clothes, watches and rings. Also, fold your long sleeves when working.
Stop in the face of danger
Stop work immediately if you encounter any danger or adverse conditions. Try to investigate and fix the problem as soon as possible. You should always prioritize the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
