Hydraulic press machine

Among the press machines and devices, the hydraulic press is one of the most popular options and is actually the most powerful device that is used in large and small sizes. The use of hydraulics has a long history and in fact its main origin goes back to Pascal's law. The use of this law has caused people to implement systems that by applying a small pressure in one part, a much larger force is created in the opposite side, which enable lifting very heavy objects or compressing very strong objects.

With this introduction, we will go to the introduction of the hydraulic press machine and while dealing with its operation, we will also examine the most famous model of these machines.

What is a hydraulic press machine?

Hydraulic press machine is a device that is designed based on the transmission of power in a fluid and can be used to compact various objects under high pressure. In these devices, the role of hydraulic fluid is very important and central, and it is responsible for power transmission. If you have used hydraulic steering or a hydraulic jack, you will notice that the force you apply is much less than the change you make.

This force should be equivalent in direct transmission mode. But the use of Pascal's law has made it possible to lift very heavy objects or compress very strong objects with very little force.

How the hydraulic presses operate

In the previous paragraph, we mentioned the use of Pascal's law in hydraulic devices. Pascal's law states that the change in pressure at any point in an incompressible fluid is transmitted to all points and the surface of the liquid. This relationship is expressed as P=F/A. Here it is clear that pressure and force change under the influence of surface or A. Now, if you pay attention to the image shown, we are facing two cylinders of different size, namely surface A1 and surface A2. On the other hand, the hydraulic fluid used on both sides is the same.

According to Pascal's law, P1=F1/A1 must be the same as P2=F2/A2. Since both fluids are the same, the area and applied force must be changed to create this equilibrium. In the picture, we showed that on the side where we apply pressure, the cylinder and piston are smaller. Therefore, less pressure is applied to it to be changed on the opposite side of an object with a larger area and a larger size. A small one enters and on the other side it causes a large piston with a very heavy weight to move. As a result, the movement of the big piston causes a lot of pressure on the workpiece and leads to its compaction or so-called crushing.
