Nicola and Ivoco have introduced their first electric tractor named Tre for the European market three months after announcing their collaboration and partnership. But unlike the concept of the same name that was unveiled last year, this Nicola Tre is a different model based on the heavy-duty Evoque S-Way that was unveiled in Madrid last July. By looking at the pictures, you can clearly understand the connection between Tre and S-Way, because Nikola's electric tractor is very similar to Ivoco's and only minor changes have been applied to it.

An illuminated N logo above the grille and additional fog lights joined by vertical LED daytime running lights are among the Tre's visual changes over the S-Way. Nicola's design features on the S-Way, jointly developed by Nicola and Italdesign, and the Italian design firm unveiled the first prototype of the Nicola Tre in April this year. Tre is also equipped with Nikola's advanced electrical technologies and the new generation of the company's proprietary infotainment system, which has significantly changed the appearance of its dashboard compared to the S-Way.

But what is more important than the design is the driving force. Nikola has designed a modular battery package for this tractor that can be tailored to the needs of buyers. The maximum capacity of these batteries reaches 720 kilowatt hours, but the currently unveiled tractor is a 4x2 type for regional missions and has a range of 400 kilometers. The continuous output power of this tractor is equal to 644 horsepower and its maximum torque is 1800 Nm. Tre is offered in two and three axle versions with a gross gross weight between 18 and 26 tons for various uses such as urban distribution.

Nicola promises that the Tre's performance dynamics will be equal to or better than diesel tractors. The production and final version of this electric tractor will be shown to the public for the first time at the IAA commercial vehicle exhibition in Hanover, Germany, and the first examples are expected to reach buyers in 2021. According to Nikola, this all-electric Tre is the first step towards a hydrogen fuel cell version based on the Tre, which will be on the market by 2023.
