Geographical location
Meshginshahr is one of the famous cities of Ardabil province, it is located 90 km from the center of the province, 295 km from Tabriz from Ardabil and 168 km from Tabriz from Ahar. Meshgin Shahr is located at an altitude of 1400 meters above sea level. The very beautiful Sablan mountain with its heavenly slopes is located 25 km from this city (45 km from the city center).
The name of the name of the city's name
"Khiav" or "Khivu" is a name that archaeologists have introduced as the main name of Meshginshahr. In a period of Islamic history, this city was also known as "Maymand". Meanwhile, during the rule of the Seljuks and Atabkans of Azerbaijan, Meshginshahr was known as "Varawi". Historians believe that in the middle of the 11th century AD, after the victory of "Alp Arslan" over the rulers of Georgia and their conversion to Islam, he gave this city to one of the rulers of that time named "Bishkin", and since then this city in the dialect of the local people , became famous after him. Finally, during the reign of Pahlavi II, the name of Khiyav, which literally means a place full of water and trees, was changed to the present-day Meshginshahr, and it has remained until today.
