In the old ways, for tiling, they used a mixture called mortar, which was made of cement and water, to stick the tiles; But in the method of tiling with glue, the tiles are glued to the desired surface using a special construction glue. This construction adhesive is also known as tile adhesive. Tile adhesive has a very high adhesive strength and makes the tiling process easier.
Stages of tile work with glue
Tiling with glue is an easy process and is not particularly complicated; We only need to be very careful in doing this. In general, we have two types of tile adhesives, which are known as paste and powder adhesives. Tiling can be done with both of these adhesives and their steps are not different from each other. Installing tiles using glue has different steps. The first thing you have to do is to calculate the required tile size.
1. Infrastructure
At this stage, you should do the required infrastructure. Substructure includes works that cause the desired parts to be leveled. For tiling, the desired surface must be completely level and have no unevenness. You should also make sure that the surface is completely clean and there is no contamination on it. If the wall or floor that you plan to tile is made of plaster, cement or wood, you should use a substance called primer and spread it on all parts of the surface.
Moisture in plaster, cement And the wood is very high and can cause the glue to become ineffective in the long run. The primer absorbs moisture to prevent the tiles from opening. After applying the primer on the surface, you should give it two to three days to dry completely. After completing the foundation steps, the surface is ready for gluing the tiles. You can make the required measurements and if necessary, make a line and position the surface.
2. Prepare tile glue
At this stage, if you use paste glue to stick the tiles, there is no need to prepare. This glue can be used as supplied. But if the glue you use is powder glue, you must make the relevant preparations according to the instructions on the packaging of this glue. To prepare powdered glue, usually you have to dissolve the glue powder slowly in a certain amount of water. You can also use a drill or mixer to do this at high speed.
3. Play the stick on the surface
You can spread the prepared glue on the desired surface using a grooved trowel. Of course, you can spread the glue on the back of the tiles; But applying glue on the surface will make the final work cleaner. The grooved trowel creates a groove and height on the surface of the adhesive, which makes the tile stick to the wall better. Of course, when spreading the glue with a grooved trowel, you must be careful to spread the glue layers completely thinly and uniformly. Be careful to glue a part of the wall where you can glue the tiles on it within 30 minutes. Otherwise, the glue will harden and the process of installing the tiles will be difficult.
4. Pick up tiles to the desired surface
After the step of spreading the mortar on the surface, you must carefully arrange the tiles next to each other. For this, you can start from one side of the wall and place the tiles next to each other in order to reach the other side of the wall. You should note that it takes 3 to 4 hours for the tile to set well and adhere well to the desired surface.
5. Bondage
Finally, after three to four hours of gluing the tiles, you can do the last step. The name of this stage is strapping. To bond the tiles, you need to prepare the cement mortar and quickly pour it in the spaces between the tiles. Remove the excess grout with a damp sponge or towel. The grout hardens quickly; That is why you should use it immediately.
