What is an elevator?

Elevator is a structure that is used to transport people and cargo vertically in a building or another structure. Elevators are generally powered by electric motors that use either a moving tension cable or a counterweight system such as a hoist or a hydraulic fluid pump to lift a cylindrical piston such as a jack.

In order to build an elevator, a set of sciences including mechanics, electronics, architecture and industries are involved. Of course, in the past, most parts of elevators were mechanical and electronic, but with the development of science and technology, parts called semiconductors were produced, which were used in elevators. Also, the entry of the field of artificial intelligence into the industry, this device also evolved and was used as a fully functional device in various buildings.

The history of the elevator

In the past, elevators were designed and implemented by different people, but none of them had a suitable level of safety, and for that reason, they were not reliable at all. What we have learned about the history of the elevator shows that an American mechanical engineer named Elisha Otis succeeded in adding a ratchet wheel to the structure of the elevator to prevent it from falling even if the lifting rope breaks. The result of the Otis upright was unveiled in an exhibition in the United States in 1854 and became the source of a revolution in the development and progress of elevators.

The construction and repair of elevators was considered a completely technical and experimental issue at the beginning. To become an expert in this field, people only had to work under the supervision of a skilled professor, and there were no resources or training courses in this field. But in 1995, an elevator training course was held in England for the first time. After that, the importance of the construction of elevators increased to such an extent that university and school collections also devoted lessons to this topic. The first undergraduate course was held in 1998 in England at Northampton University.
