What is perlite and what are its uses?

This stone is one of the siliceous volcanic stones. In fact, this stone has acquired a glass-like structure due to gas escaping from the mouth of volcanoes and due to exposure to cool air and water vapor being trapped inside it. One of the features of perlite is its high resistance to heat and humidity. Perlite has a low density and is considered insufficient for heat and sound. Also, perlite has shown good resistance against earthquakes. Perlite is easy to shave and cut, has high flexibility and can be combined with other materials.

As we said, perlite is the gases emitted from volcanoes that settle on the ground after coming out of the crater of volcanoes and turn into stone after cooling down. This stone is taken to factories and broken into perlite. are converted into smaller pieces, the next step is to place them in the furnace. Inside the furnace, chemicals and water are combined with perlite. Finally, this stone was taken to the outside environment with a suitable temperature to be ready for the market.

Nowadays, according to the progress of the construction industry, light and resistant materials are used instead of using heavy materials. Due to its lightness, this stone is mostly used in the construction of prefabricated parts such as perlite bricks. Of course, among its other uses, it can be mentioned the stylization in building construction, sound and thermal insulation. This stone can be used in making concrete. Concretes made with this type of mineral pumice have less weight and high strength. It is also possible to mix perlite with cement and make light perlite mortar.
