What is casting?

Casting is one of the processes that are used to make and produce parts. This method is one of many old methods whose history goes back to several thousand years ago, and even today, more than 90% of the parts in various industries, especially the transportation and machinery industry, use this method. As a general explanation, casting involves pouring a molten or malleable material into a mold. In this way, the material takes the shape of the mold and turns into a hard object after cooling. Various materials such as metal, plaster, plastic, etc. can be shaped with the help of casting.

🔶 Casting history 🔶
Casting is a 7000 year old process. The oldest cast piece is a copper frog from 3200 BC. Casting has been used throughout history to make tools, weapons, and religious items. The history of metal casting and its development goes back to South Asia (China, India and Pakistan) where all kinds of statues were used in many religious ceremonies. These items were mostly made of copper alloys with lead. Early casting molds consisted of one or two parts and were made of stone or ceramic. There are also evidences that humans have been using the casting process to shape wax for a long time.
