What kind of stone is granite?

Granite (the name granite has its roots in Latin meaning grain = granum) is an internal igneous rock with large grains of quartz crystal. In the sense that it is a stone that is formed by the cooling of lava on or near the surface of the earth. The earth is made up of layers of rock and magma. The surface layer of the earth is known as lithosphere or crust. Beneath the lithosphere is the mantle, which is made of molten rock called fluid magma. Igneous rock is formed when magma reaches the earth's surface. Now there are types of internal (intrusive) and external igneous rocks. An exothermic igneous rock is formed when magma cools rapidly on the Earth's surface. But when the complete magma does not reach the earth's surface and cools slowly and gets trapped under the earth's surface, internal or intrusive igneous rock is formed. Also, granite is a stone in the sense that it is not a single mineral but a combination of several minerals. If you look closely at the granite stone, you will notice the presence of at least 2-4 colors, white, pink, gray and black.

Features of granite stone

Granite has many features such as high durability and durability, high strength, resistant to heat, impact and scratches, low water absorption, etc., which makes it suitable for use in different parts of the building. Now we will continue to describe each one in detail:

Since granite has a high molecular density of hard minerals; It is considered one of the hardest building stones. For this purpose, cutting machines equipped with special diamonds are used in several stages.
Granite is very resistant to wear due to its high hardness. But after subbing by high-quality polishers, it shows a very beautiful polished surface.
Granite is strong enough. Therefore, it can bear a significant weight. On the other hand, because the stone is solid and non-porous and has a smooth and uniform surface, it does not easily stick to mortar and cement. Therefore, there is a high possibility of the stone separating and falling. Therefore, better options such as Traveton are suggested for stone facades in high-rise buildings. All stonemasons use scope clamps to increase the safety of their work when using granite stones for walls. In this way, the risk of dropping the stone will be reduced.
Crushed granite (granite aggregates) is also used in road construction, railways, foundations and parts that need to be filled.
Specific weight of granite stone It is 2800 kg/m3.
Another feature of granite stone is the radon gas present in it, which has been found today by conducting some tests that its amount is not to the extent that it is carcinogenic and harmful to health. Full information about this issue is stated in the article on the radioactivity of granite rock.
