The exhaust system may be damaged for various reasons, all of which can generally be classified into three categories: rust, vibration, and improper use. However, the main cause of exhaust failure is rust and problems in some of its components. Depending on the severity of the rust, this problem can lead to complete exhaust breakage or structural damage.

rusting is of two types:

1. External rust - from outside to inside This type of rust is mainly caused by external elements. Often due to rainwater or melted snow or even salt spilled on the road surface in winter, this type of rust occurs in the exhaust.

2. Internal rust - from the inside out This rust is caused by the contact of the internal components of the exhaust system with water, chemicals and sediments created by the condensation of exhaust gases when the exhaust system is cold. This problem occurs mostly for cars that constantly travel very short distances. In this condition, the temperature of the exhaust system never rises high enough to completely evaporate the water accumulated due to the condensation process.

Exhaust Manifold

The exhaust manifold can be damaged due to exposure to high pressure and heat cycles. In such a situation, this part wears out so much that it is no longer able to withstand the heat and cracks appear in it. These cracks gradually turn into small holes that lead to the failure of the exhaust system.

Oxygen Sensor

Failure of the oxygen sensor leads to incorrect detection of exhaust gases. As a result, the air-fuel mixture may become thicker or thinner than usual. If the mixture is too thick, it will melt the catalyst, and if it is too dilute, the converter will not be able to convert the hydrocarbons into safe elements. Therefore, fuel consumption increases or decreases.

catalyst converter

The catalytic converter is one of the most important parts of the vehicle emission control system, which prevents polluting the atmosphere by converting harmful exhaust pollutants into water vapor and less harmful gases. . If the catalytic converter is blocked or choked, it will significantly affect the car's power. You may also feel heat from the floor of the car or smell sulfur inside the cabin.
