The electric motor is mostly installed at the top of the elevator shaft and in some designs at the bottom of the shaft and in a place called the motor house. The elevator cabin is connected to the elevator weights on the other side, which are located in a metal frame called the weight frame. These weights are usually made of cast iron or concrete. The weight of these weights is equal to the weight of the cabin plus half of the cabin capacity. The reason for putting weights in the elevator system is to help lift the elevator.
