What is a concrete foam?

Foam concrete is one of the types of concrete, which is produced using various materials such as cement, water, foaming foam, sandblasting or soft sand. Compared to traditional concrete, this concrete has a lower density due to the presence of foam in it. Concrete foam has a light weight like Tri-D panel walls and can be known as a good sound and thermal insulation. The weight of these foams can reach from 400 to 1700 kg per square meter according to the quality of material mixing and their density. Concrete foam is known by other names such as floor concrete, aerated concrete, sponge concrete, light concrete, light sponge concrete and porous concrete.

Types of concrete foam

Concrete foam can be divided into two different types according to the production method, including aerated concrete and floor concrete, each of which can have unique features and capabilities:

🔸 In the production of aerated concrete, after the production of water and cement slurry, soft aluminum powder is added, and after mixing in the mixer and performing chemical reactions, hydrogen bubbles are produced inside the concrete and the volume of the concrete increases.

The production of floor concrete is made from floor material instead of aluminum powder, and it is a simpler method to produce foam concrete.

In terms of density, foam concrete can be divided into different types, including structural concrete foam (density above) with a density of 1200 to 1800 kg/m2, foam concrete with a medium density of 800 to 1000 kg/m2 and light concrete foam (low density) with a density of 300 to 600 kg/m2.
