Automatic power supply

In cases where the metal structural frame of the greenhouse is in contact with the ground and the protective measure is automatic disconnection of the power supply (ADS), the frame must be balanced connected to the MET of the greenhouse. Electrical installations, as stated in Regulation 411.3.1.2, are measured with protective bonding conductor(s) in accordance with Regulation 544.1. Where a fixed metal unit or deck is in direct contact with earth, or may be an external conductive part, such non-electrical equipment shall also be connected to the MET.

Double -insulated or reinforced

In supplying the power required for a greenhouse, protection of the entire facility by means of double or reinforced insulation in accordance with Section 412 may be employed under certain circumstances. However, this will only be done where it is verified that the installation remains effectively monitored during normal use, such that no changes are made that would impair the effectiveness of the protective measures. Since this protective measure is unlikely to occur in a domestic environment, it should be avoided. However, fault protection can still be obtained using separate items of Class II equipment, and this is usually the preferred option for such locations.

Energy -saving

New designs in greenhouse power supply, improved heating and ventilation equipment, and new management systems should be included during the upgrade. Considering the typical annual energy consumption, which is 75% for heating, 15% for electricity and 10% for vehicles, efforts and resources should be made where the greatest savings can be made.

Binary cover

Cover the side walls and ends of the greenhouse with poly or bubble wrap to achieve the thermopane effect. Install double wall polycarbonate structural sheets to provide insulation and reduce recovery work. Use poly with an infrared inhibitor in the inner layer for a 15% savings.

One or two Add plastic sheeting to old greenhouses to reduce infiltration and heat loss by up to 50%. Install a heating blanket for 20-50% savings. Where the curtains meet side walls, frames or gutters, they should be securely fastened. Use a U-shaped trap to prevent heat from escaping overhead. Water and heat lines should be insulated, or placed under a blanket.
