Collecting initial information and studies
A consulting engineer is the research and operational arm of the project. In general, a consulting engineer can pursue primary studies in two areas:
Recognition
In the beginning, the engineer must be able to have a proper understanding of the project and perform preliminary investigations. In the meantime, the consulting engineer will talk with the employer and go through the initial negotiations. After reaching the conclusion about the project, the next steps of the investigation will begin. In this way, it can have an accurate and clear picture of the project's status in the future.
The next step is the selection of building materials. This is one of the main duties of the consulting engineer. Each construction project requires special materials. As a result, the engineer must choose and use the best materials according to the needs of the project.
In the next step, the number of human forces is determined. Human resources are the main parts of a project. Therefore, they should be chosen carefully. Naturally, the best person who is able to choose the human resources of the project is the consulting engineer. After that, the consulting engineer must determine the dimensions and scope of the project and what parts should be added or subtracted. The final steps of the preliminary studies, the consulting engineer prepares a general plan of the project and finally, estimates the costs of the project. These are important parts of the consulting engineer's research. Without this information, starting a work project is futile and increases the probability of failure.

Preparation of basic designs
After the initial knowledge is done, it is time to prepare the initial designs. The consulting engineer must identify the current needs of a project and solve them according to the exact schedule. Discussions should also be held regarding the methods of financing and credit required for the project. It is at this stage that the consulting engineer can reduce costs by using his experience.
Detailed studies
Another task that consulting engineers undertake is detailed studies.
This means that before anything else, they must check the studies related to the geology and meteorology of the project construction site. For example, in some places, it is not possible to build a structure because the amount of subsidence of the local soil is very high and the construction of any kind of structure can be dangerous. Or there is a possibility that there are underground water tables in the construction site of the project, in which case construction is not possible. Examining these problems is the responsibility of the consulting engineer. In the next step, everything should be checked and prepared in terms of branches such as the sewage network and electricity distribution. In the last step, the conditions of the place and the people who live there are checked.
Bidding Dodge Preparation
After the turn comes to tender preparation. The technical specifications of the project must be set in such a way that at least three contractors can participate in the bidding.
The second duty of the consulting engineer in the bidding process is to inform and remind the participants of all the terms and conditions of the bidding. that all candidates should be able to present their plans to the employer, contractor and consultant engineer. If they are inconsistent with the project, they should also have the necessary flexibility to change it. Also, it is the consulting engineer who selects the contractors and will supervise the process of their work.
Finally, we remind again that All monitoring and control duties will be the responsibility of the consulting engineer. Therefore, he is involved in all aspects of the project and has supervision.
It should be noted that these departments themselves are also divided into hundreds of other small tasks, all of which are the responsibility of the consulting engineer.
