What is a bed rebar?
Different methods are used to strengthen the building against earthquakes, and one of the most widely used methods is the use of bed rebar. These rebars have ribbed grooves on their surface to make better contact with mortar or concrete. Steel undergoes erosion over time, the surfaces of this type of steel bars are covered with a coating of zinc. This coating is anti-rust and increases the life of the rebar and prevents early erosion of these rebars. As a result, with this work, the quality and lifespan of the rebar increases.
Bed rebar
According to the definitions and information stated about bed rebar in various references, the material of this rebar should be stainless steel. Also, according to paragraph 8-4-3-8 of the eighth topic of the national regulations, the longitudinal wires of these rebars should be completely buried in the slurry or mortar. This cover shall be at least 16mm if it is exposed to air or soil. But if it is not exposed to air or soil, this value can be at least 13 mm. All these types of rebars should be made of galvanized steel (stainless steel). When the building is exposed to air or soil, or in internal walls that are in conditions where the average relative humidity is more than 75%, they must be protected against corrosion by galvanized or epoxy coating.
How to use the bedding in the building
The bed rebar is a pair of longitudinal wires to which transverse wires in the form of a ladder or truss are connected by resistance welding, and it is used horizontally or vertically in the structure. The teeth of this rebar allow it to be easily placed in the mortar. The bed rebar should be resistant to moisture and rusting. For this reason, stainless steel galvanized coating is used in its production. To implement this method, before building the wall, we have to connect it horizontally to the structure. In metal skeletons, the installation is done using special metal nails and guns or by welding, and we attach fasteners to a minimum total of 4 cm on all 4 sides. But in the concrete structure, it is done either with concrete nails and its gun, or by using screws and roll bolts. According to the regulation, the placement of this type of rebar is every 50 cm.

The most important advantage and feature of the rebar bed is the strengthening of the building. The bed rebar connects the intersecting walls. It does not need to inject grout and is more economical than other methods of strengthening. Another advantage of bed rebar is the separation of walls and columns. This work reduces the forces inside the wall plate.
