In our country, Nylex is actually a heavy polyethylene film, which is mostly used in the form of store-bought nylon. In other countries, the meaning of Nylex is different. It should be mentioned that the constituent materials of Nylex are not only heavy polyethylene, but it can be stated that at least 80% of its constituent materials are heavy polyethylene and the rest is light polyethylene, the reason for using this 20% is the property Its shine, better sewing ability and softness of Nylex. In the past, most store nylons and garbage bags were made of light polyethylene, which these days have been replaced by heavy polyethylene or Nylex.
What substance does nylon come from?
Polyethylenes, as a group of polymer materials, have properties are specific physical and chemical. It is very common to add some additives to polymers to enhance their properties. In the production formula of nylons, additives are added in order to improve the elastic resistance, adjust the structural network and increase the transparency of the surface of polyethylene nylons.
Reason for using Polyethylene in Nylon Production
In many European and American countries, nylon is produced from polymers that have a polyamide structure; But in Iran, nylons are produced and marketed with the help of blown films obtained from polyethylene.
In Persian, this category of polyethylene is called heavy or high density polyethylene. In their chemical structure, there is only one main branch and no secondary index is visible in it. The main branch is called a chain in the polymer matrix, which has the largest number of carbon elements in it. The presence of a secondary branch reduces the strength of the intermolecular bond between the atoms present in the main branch. Due to the absence of this branch in high density polyethylene, there are strong bonds between the atoms and thus their tensile strength is lower than the two The other grade is more polyethylene. To produce heavy polyethylene, two basic factors, the reaction conditions and the type of catalyst used, must be completely under control. Ziegler-Nata is usually used as a catalyst in the production of heavy polyethylene.
Another type of polyethylene, which is used as a raw material for nylon bags, is called light or low density polyethylene. The important question is, what is the difference between nylon raw materials? Light polyethylene has a secondary branch, and for this reason, the number of intermolecular bonds of carbons in the main branch decreases. Reducing the number of links makes them weaker, and therefore the tensile strength of the final product produced with this polymer material will be lower compared to heavy polyethylene, and as a result, its physical properties are also somewhat weaker.
To produce this Polyethylene type is used by radical polymerization method. Due to the weaker bond between the carbon atoms in the main branch, these polymers are more flexible, and for this reason, more diverse products can be produced with them. Also, this type of polyethylene breaks down more easily in the process of being decomposed by microorganisms.
