In May 1289, the first theater group of Gilan started its work under the leadership of Mirza Hasan Nasser under the title of "Majjam Omid Targhee". Nasser translated some famous plays into Farsi for the performance of this group, the most important of which was Khasis (Moliere). With the addition of Daei Daazi (Mirza Mohammad Hossein Khan Daei Tabrizi) to "Hope of Progress" there were changes in the performances and the local characteristics and social issues of Gilan were also These translations were published. In the first years of the 13th century, a man named Grigor Yaqkian joined the theater groups of Gilan, and his efforts brought about many changes in the theater of Gilan. Yaghigian translated a number of foreign plays into Farsi and wrote plays as well. He and his wife also appeared as actors in some shows. But his most important work was the writing of the play Darius III or Kodomanus, in which he was able to mix the narratives of Ferdowsi's Shahnameh with the characteristics of Greek theater.

The theater of Gilan, which was progressing rapidly after 1304 and due to severe government censorship, lost a bit of its growing movement and the deportation of some theater people in 1307 caused a stagnation in the theater of this region, until around 1310 turned off.

After Shahrivar 1320 and the transformation of the society, a movement started in Gilan theater which was the beginning of the third period. In 1323 Mehdi Garami created a company called "Sahami Honar" whose director was Mir Ali Naqi Mirkia, one of Ali Daryabigi's students. Mirkia brought about a transformation in Gilan theater with the performance of the hairdresser from Seville (Beaumarshe).
