What is wood glue?

This wood glue is composed of organic and polymer compounds that allow the molecules of this glue to be very flexible. This molecular flexibility adds many special properties to wood glue. These adhesives do not have a specific smell and are considered almost odorless, and their solubility is high with plastic paint and general solvents such as water. The polymer properties of wood glue give it a paste-like appearance with high viscosity, and the white color of this glue is one of its characteristic features. The viscosity of this glue is high and there is no need to dissolve it with water to work in the workshop unless you need a lower concentration. One of the other uses of polyvinyl acetate is making granular adhesives that have different degrees of solubility.

These glues are the right choice for connecting and building wooden structures or for catching wood joints and cracks. Also, wood glue is one of the best choices for underlaying colors and activities such as mosaic work. Their base is homopolymer resins and their range is between pale gray and white. The physical connection between the glue and the wood is established by this material, and the function is that the polyvinyl acetate material penetrates into the seams and cracks of the wood, and its adhesion and viscosity force fills these pores. After the glue dries, a transparent and strong elastic texture is created, which is the adhesion factor.

Applications of wood glue

Wood glue has many uses, but the most important of them is in the furniture industry for gluing furniture and wood pieces together, in wood-related arts such as mosaic work, and also for gluing plaster pieces together and in building plastering. Artificial wood such as plywood, MDF sheets can also be glued together with this material. But for materials like Unolite, it has corrosive properties and causes its destruction.

The benefits of using wood glue

One of the advantages of using wood glue is the formation of a strong and elastic connection between two materials, which creates a smooth surface in addition to high adhesion. Among other advantages of this material, it can be mentioned that it is easy to implement and does not have solubility and concentration problems, which greatly increases the speed of work execution. Having special and different properties against water is another benefit of wood glue. Solubility with plastic resins is the important factor and application of these adhesives, which gives them additional uses. It is better to use this material on the work surface free of any fat. To perform, use a piece of wood or a metal spatula or even a brush to draw the desired amount of glue on the surface and create a layer. After creating the surface, put the two pieces on top of each other and let them stay on top of each other for 20 to 30 minutes without any movement. If you can apply lateral pressure on them, the adhesion will be better. It is better not to use this material for adhesion at a temperature lower than 5 degrees Celsius. The best temperature for drying wood glue is above 15 degrees Celsius.

Safety tips to use wood glue

Safety points should also be taken into account when using wood glue. Avoid direct contact of this substance with the skin because it may cause skin allergies. Polymer compounds are highly sensitive for some skins. Also, as a chemical substance, contact with the eyes should be avoided. It is also useful to wear gloves during use. If you are allergic to this substance, wash your hands with water after coming in contact with it because water is a good solvent for this substance.
