Why do silver design dishes become dull or black?

Pour warm (not hot) water in a sink or plastic basin.
Add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid (without phosphates and lemon scent).
Place the brass dishes with silver designs in the water and clean the surface with a very soft sponge or cotton cloth.
Then rinse with lukewarm water and dry immediately.

Mix some baking soda with a little water to make a soft paste.
Using a soft cloth, gently apply the paste to the darkened areas.
Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as it may scratch the surface.
Wash and dry the container. This method is recommended for more resistant stains.

Put a small amount of polishing cream on cotton or a soft cloth.

Long-term soaking: Never soak dishes for a long time (for example, night to morning) in water or foam. Water infiltration into the seams and plating layers can cause the coating to lift.
Keeping in newspaper: Some people use newspaper to wrap dishes. Newspaper printing ink is acidic and can damage the surface of silver design brassware. Use parchment paper or cotton cloth for packaging.

Cleaning before storage: Make sure the containers are completely clean and dry. Even fingerprints left behind can become stains over time.
Using plastic bags: Place each container individually in zip-lock plastic bags and try to remove the air inside. Reducing contact with air stops the oxidation process.
Anti-tarnish fabrics: You can wrap containers in flannel cloths or special anti-tarnish fabrics.
Dry environment: The storage place should be dry and cool. The humidity of the basement or the extreme heat of the attic damages the brass dishes of the silver design.
Plaster or silica gel: Placing a piece of writing chalk or a few packs of silica gel (dehumidifier) next to the dishes in the closet will absorb the humidity of the environment and prevent the dishes from becoming cloudy.
