The Minerva Brace is fitted to fix broken or displaced bones in your upper spine (neck). It may also be installed after surgery in this area. This brace is designed to immobilize your spine to allow the ligaments and bones to heal, which usually takes between 6 and 12 weeks. Once you are in a satisfactory position, you can begin to sit up and get out of bed. The Minerva brace is generally worn 24 hours a day and is not removed under any circumstances unless directed to do so by your orthotist or specialist. At first, your Minerva brace may be uncomfortable. Soon you will learn the most comfortable position to sit, lie down and move.
