Applications of geomembranes

Question

Accepted Answer

♦ Construction of geomembrane pool
♦ Sealing operation of underground structures
♦ Sealing construction pits
♦ Lining, isolation and insulation of oil, gas and petrochemical tanks
♦ Construction and insulation of the leaching pond
♦ Stabilization of all types of structures and surfaces using geosynthetics, insulation of all types of earthen water storage ponds (agricultural ponds, livestock ponds, fish breeding ponds, etc.) and sealing of cement and concrete ponds (100% insulation) by geomembrane sheets
The physical and functional characteristics of geomembranes are very different according to their chemical composition as follows:
Thermal expansion coefficient (polyethylene has a very high coefficient while polypropylene has a relatively lower coefficient)
Tensile stress according to the final rupture stress
Change of plasticity or stress-strain behavior of material
Puncture resistance
Tear resistance
Resistance to decomposition by ultraviolet rays
Resistance to cracking
Long-term resistance to high temperature
Ease of making large plates
Ease of connecting seams
