In diaphragm pumps, the power consumption and the amount of air consumed by the pump are related to the flow rate and output of the pump. If the output flow rate of the pump is zero, the amount of air consumed is at its lowest level, and when the flow rate is maximum, the amount of air consumed by the pump is at its highest level. This characteristic of diaphragm pumps helps the output flow of the pump to be usable in all intervals.

The amount of NPSH required in the diaphragm pump is also determined like other reciprocating pumps.
