What is fodder?! The vegetative part resulting from the growth of plants, which is more fibrous and bulky, is called fodder. Fodder is a low-energy substance that stimulates digestion and fermentation in the rumen. Fodder and animal feed are composed of various plants and grains, some of these plants and grains are: straw, alfalfa, barley, corn, etc. Straw is the dried stems and leaves of dark grain plants that remain after threshing and separating the seeds from the plant. Straw is used due to its low nutritional value because it makes the digestive tract bulky.
Straw is one of the most important agricultural products. The stem and the shell around cereal grains such as wheat and barley are called straw, which is separated from the grain of the plant during threshing. There are different types of straws, including: - Wheat straw -Barley straw Lentil straw - Pea straw -Oat straw - Sunflower straw - and straw enriched with urea
Nutritional Benefits and Stand Properties
Straw is a fibrous product and has little protein and energy compared to other feeds. It is palatable and digestible. Pea and bean straw contains more calcium and magnesium protein than cereal straw. On the other hand, due to its higher humidity and lower drying speed, it gets moldy sooner. Feeding only with straw or wheat straw is not common. But using it in the livestock feeding program will lead to better performance and higher efficiency of the livestock. In terms of nutritional value, barley straw is better than wheat straw, and wheat straw is better than rice straw. For heavy and large animals, it is better to have straw in long strands. But it should be noted that the consumption of straw should be low and in the necessary amount. The more straw is in the animal's diet, the more it prevents digestion and consumption of food. At the beginning of the animal's lactation period, because the animal has lost a lot of weight, it is necessary to use high-quality fodder to compensate for the lost weight. Consumption of straw may cause bloat. To prevent livestock bloat, it is better to consume enriched straw together with other fodder.
