Silversmithing is an art in which processes such as penning, hammering, etc. are performed on silver, and all kinds of ornaments and dishes are made with it. This art is widely practiced in provinces such as Qazvin and Isfahan.
After gold and goldsmithing, silver is one of the most valuable and widely used metals, with which, in addition to ornaments, they make dishes and decorative objects. Silver is a valuable metal like gold and copper that is found in pure form in nature and its extraction is done from ore. There are many mines in Iran where silver ore is found.
Silver Methods
Hammering or metalworking method The hammer can bend around the ring, bracelet or neck bar or curved metal surfaces and make them into your desired shapes. The hammering method is used to make dishes. For example, to make a bowl with an opening size of 30 cm, the size of the silver sheet is increased by about 5 to 6 cm and it is hollowed out with a hammer. The desired shape is obtained.
Filing method The cleaner the sawing and sawing stage, the simpler and shorter the filing stage. Filing should be done in one direction and in the opposite direction. Files are usually flat or semi-circular and are measured by a number, the higher the number, the cleaner the cut.
Bending method with mold In the method of bending with a mold, silver sheets are drawn on special molds and with a rod with a wooden handle, they pull the sheet on the mold until it is shaped like a mold, and then the mold is removed.
casting method
This method is special for making containers using molds made of silver, brass and aluminum.
Pressing method The pressing method is that they make the silver into the desired shape with a mold and a pressing machine, and after the container is made, a layer is shaved from it to make the container electric. This stage is called wheeling.
